Urban Education Collaborative Director to receive Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award for Lifetime Scholarship at AERA

Chance W. Lewis, Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor of Urban Education has been selected as the 2013 recipient of the Dr. Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award for Lifetime Scholarship. This award is given annually to one scholar/practitioner based upon the following criteria: a) illustrating effort in producing scholarship which advances multicultural and multiethnic education (broadly defined), within all educational, cultural, societal and social settings, contexts, levels and locations; and b) a demonstrated commitment to underserved communities beyond scholarship with evidence of improving the practical conditions experienced by multicultural/multiethnic communities. This award is presented by the Multicultural Education Special Interest Group (SIG) at the American Education Research Association’s (AERA) Annual Meeting in San Francisco in April 2013.
